Winslet Pragmatic About 6th Oscar Try

BERLIN (AP) — Kate Winslet says she is prepared to leave this year’s Oscar ceremony as she has five times in the past — without a golden statue.

“I’m so used to it, having gone through it before and having lost so many times,” Winslet says. “Being in that losing state is something I’m much more comfortable in, in a funny kind of a way.”

Winslet was at the Berlin Film Festival Thursday for a screening of “The Reader,” the Holocaust-themed drama that earned her a best-actress nomination.

In January, she won best supporting actress for that performance at the Golden Globes, as well as best dramatic actress for her role in “Revolutionary Road.”

“I’ve been lucky so far, and if that’s it, then that’s fine,” Winslet said. “I think that’s the attitude you have to take.”

Winslet and Cruz’s new found friendship

Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz have struck up a surprisingly close friendship in the run-up to this year’s Oscars – despite only having met three times.

The unlikely pair, who are both competing for this year’s Best Supporting Actress gong, have been offering each other phone support daily in the countdown to the prestigious show.

And Cruz insists she and Winslet enjoy a far-from-bitter relationship, contrary to reports.

She says, “Kate and I have become very close even though we have only met three times. Everyone likes to think there’s rivalry between us but that’s not true.”

Cruz is nominated for her part in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Winslet received the nod for her role in The Reader.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 22nd

The Beauty Within: An Exclusive Interview with Kate Winslet

When Kate Winslet rang me earlier today, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. A bit of beauty banter? Of course. But the conversation that ensued unveiled a genuine heart and sense of purpose below the striking exterior of  this  Lancome spokesmodel.

Though still in her early 30s, Kate’s sage-like qualities resounded over the phone. With all the awards she’s been winning and is nominated for, you’d think she’d be a little less grounded, not so.

Click this link for a reality check from one of the most influential- and naturally gorgeous- heroines of our time.

So then it’s safe to assume that you’re comfortable with being a “body image hero”?

Yes, yes. Very much so.

Do you watch yourself in your films? Is it hard to see yourself on screen?

I don’t watch myself, no. I always see [my films] once when they come out, but I don’t sit and avidly watch them. I do find it a bit strange.
