Kate Winslet and Idris Elba circling roles in All The Old Knives

A few years back, Neil Burger was attached to direct an adaptation of Olen Steinhauser’s novel All The Old Knives, but the project went off the radar with no progression.

It is now popping back up, this time with a pair of major names in Kate Winslet and Idris Elba being seriously looked at for roles.

Since no details of the film are known, below is a brief synopsis of the novel.

Six years ago in Vienna, terrorists took over a hundred hostages, and the rescue attempt went terribly wrong. The CIA’s Vienna station gathered intel during those tense hours, assimilating facts from the ground and from an agent on the inside. So when it all went wrong, the question had to be asked: Had their agent been compromised, and how?

Two of the CIA’s case officers in Vienna, Henry Pelham and Celia Harrison, were lovers at the time, and on the night of the hostage crisis Celia decided she’d had enough. She left the agency, married and had children, and now lives in idyllic Carmel-by-the-Sea. Henry is still a case officer in Vienna, and has traveled to California to see her one more time, to relive the past, maybe, or to put it behind him once and for all.

But neither of them can forget that long-ago question: Had their agent been compromised? If so, how? Each also wonders what role tonight’s dinner companion might have played in the way the tragedy unfolded six years ago.

It is also being reported that neither star will sign on unless the other one does. If that should happen, production should begin soon.

Kate Winslet “couldn’t wait” to work with Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet says that she was nearly giddy when she found out that Leonardo DiCaprio would be her co-star in Titanic.

“When they finally gave me the role, I remember calling my friends and family and going, ‘You’re not going to believe who’s playing Jack, you’re not going to believe who’s playing the boy’s part — it’s Leonardo DiCaprio, don’t you remember him from What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” Winslet recalled in an interview provided by the studio. “I just had so much respect for him that I just couldn’t wait to share in the experience with him, you know, because I knew it would be challenging, I knew it would be exciting.”

The 1997 film, which won 11 Oscars, is one of the highest grossing films of all time. The premiere of the 3D re-release marked the 100th anniversary of the ocean liner’s tragic maiden voyage on April 1912.

Titanic was the most exciting audition I’d ever been on, so of course I wanted it. I wanted it so badly and you just dig deep and try hard and do the best you can,” Winslet said. “So when I finally got that phone call and was told that I’d been given the part, I just couldn’t believe it because there were so many other actresses who were more well-known than I was at the time, who would probably have been more suitable in terms of the profile of those women… but luckily, James Cameron was prepared to take that risk and gave the part to me.”

DiCaprio didn’t attend the worldwide premiere of Titanic 3D in London on Tuesday, March 27, as he was in Louisiana shooting Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained, but Winslet and Cameron held down the red carpet.

When asked why she thought the film had been such a monumental success, Winslet said, “The reason the film worked at all is because it’s actually a very pure and simple love story. It’s a good, old-fashioned Hollywood love story. People will never tire of that, you know, and the sincerity of that.”

Kate Winslet stops career worries

Kate Winslet no longer worries about her career now she has gotten older.

Kate Winslet doesn’t worry about her career now she is in her 30s.

The 36-year-old actress — who has been married twice before — used to let her “ups and downs” affect how she felt about herself, but has now learnt to let go of things she is not happy with.

She said: “I’m not going to get upset the way I used to. Once you’re in your 30s you learn not to panic or stress too much about work.

“You don’t let the ups and downs of your career affect your sense of self-worth or personal well-being. That’s probably the greatest lesson I’ve learnt from all of this.”

The Oscar-winning star — who will soon be seen in cinemas in Roman Polanski’s new movie Carnage alongside Jodie Foster — is particularly happy with the direction her career is taking at present.

She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I’m very happy and I can’t complain. I’ve had the chance to work on very good projects of late and work with very talented directors. I hope things continue that way.”

Kate Winslet waxwork joins Madame Tussauds

The Titanic star is a new addition to Madame Tussauds and has been placed with other British acting talents such as Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench.

Model-makers spent months perfecting the figure of Winslet, 36, who won an Emmy for her title role in miniseries Mildred Pierce earlier this year.

The wax replica has been draped in the red cap-sleeve Elie Saab dress which she wore to collect her prize at the ceremony.

Recent additions have included Rihanna and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.

Rihanna’s figure features one of her many tattoos, which starts on the right side of her stomach and extends so it is parallel with her bum cheek.

It took four months to complete and cost £150,000 to create.

The model stands alongside Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and the late Amy Winehouse in the museum’s music section.

A sexy Kylie Minogue wax model caused controversy when it was unveiled in 2002.

The singer was posed on all fours, dressed in a red silk basque and thigh-length leather boots, in racy underwear.

The skirt on the figure reportedly had to be lengthened after fans kept lifting it up to look at her famous bottom.

Kate covers the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK

Kate Winslet has spoken for the first time of her divorce from Sam Mendes, and of her battle to rebuild her life.

Looking sultry with a Sixties edge in a glamorous photo shoot, the Oscar-winning actress told how she coped with the sadness by “soldiering on” — but that she now feels as if she is at the beginning of a “new narrative”.

Winslet, 35, parted from the Reading-born stage and film director last year after seven years of marriage. They have a two-year-old son Joe, and Winslet said that although it had been “hard”, they were focusing on raising him together.

The British star, who also has a 10-year-old daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to director and writer Jim Threapleton, told Harper’s Bazaar UK: “One thing I will say about me and Sam is that it’s fine, it’s really fine. I’m not going to shit-fling, there’s no point in even going there. It is what it is.

“We’re grown-ups at the end of the day, and however hard it’s been for me, it’s been equally hard for him. And we have a child together who we both love – and raising him together, jointly and without any conflict, is absolutely key. It’s the only way to do it, and I’ve really learned that with Mia.”

Winslet “thrilled” by Pearce’s saucy speech

The Australian star took to the stage at the glitzy Hollywood ceremony on Sunday night to accept a prize for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie for his role in Mildred Pierce.

Pearce couldn’t resist making a cheeky comment about his onscreen lover Winslet, telling the crowd, “I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times and I didn’t realize it was gonna result in this! So Kate, I share this with you — because you’re an extraordinary woman, thank you for allowing me to insert myself into the world of Mildred!”

Winslet is adamant she wasn’t embarrassed by her pal’s cheeky remarks as she is a longtime admirer of his, telling reporters backstage, “I’m thrilled. I’ve had a crush on Guy Pearce since I was 11 years old, so just to stand in the same room as him was thrilling for me and to hear him say that was even more of a buzz.”
