Kate’s fury over fake fur rug … that wasn’t

As A staunch anti-fur advocate, Kate Winslet has always been meticulously careful about what she wears – and what she poses with.

So when the Titanic star was asked to drape herself over a luxuriant fur rug for a provocative glossy magazine photoshoot, she was quick to seek reassurances that it was made from artificial fibres.

But now the magazine, Vanity Fair, has been forced to apologise after admitting that the actress had been misled and that the throw was really genuine fox fur.

Does Kate Winslet want an Oscar? ‘You bet your [expletive] [expletive] I do!’

Over the course of her relatively brief but illustrious career, Kate Winslet has amassed five Academy Award nominations — supporting for Sense and Sensibility (1995), lead for Titanic (1997), supporting for Iris (2001), lead for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), and lead for Little Children (2006) — but, believe it or not, she has never gone home with an Oscar!

This year, Kate the Great has two opportunities to correct the record: She stars in The Reader and Revolutionary Road. Based on her track record, chances are she’ll be nominated for at least one performance, and possibly both (one in lead, one in supporting). If this proves to be the case, and she again goes home empty-handed, Winslet will either tie or surpass the late Deborah Kerr (six) as the losing-est actress in Oscars history.

This background makes it all the more fun to read Krista Smith’s profile of Winslet in the December edition of Vanity Fair. During the interview that shaped the piece, Smith apparently asked Winslet whether all of the attention surrounding her big year has made her particularly hungry for an Oscar this time around. Winslet’s response? Priceless.

“Do I want it? You bet your [expletive] [expletive] I do! I think that people assume that I don’t care or don’t want it or don’t need it or something. It’s hard to be there five times, and I’m only human, you know?”

Nice to see a little fire in the belly! Now will someone get this woman an Oscar?!

Kate Winslet: Not airbrushed this time

A day after Kate Winslet said in a Vanity Fair interview she still feels like the “fat kid,” critics in Britain, her home country, are lining up to claim she still is, People magazine reports.

But the svelte five-time Oscar nominee isn’t having it: “Kate is furious at suggestions that her body has been airbrushed,” her rep told People.

The closest scrutiny comes from the Daily Mail, which engaged an airbrush artist to perform an autopsy on Winslet, who was shot wearing heels, black stockings and nothing else.

“She is in terrific shape and what you see is how she looks or she would never have agreed to pose for those shots,” her rep added.

In 2003 Britain’s GQ magazine – a stablemate of Vanity Fair – ran digitally “slimmed” photos of Winslet that drew much criticism. Within days Winslet apologized. “I just didn’t want people to think I was a hypocrite and that I’d suddenly lost 30 pounds or whatever,” she said then. “So I just came out and said, ‘Look, I don’t look like that.'”

Kate Winslet strips for Vanity Fair

Kate Winslet sure knows how to promote her two high profile movies coming out. For this shoot in Los Angeles, Winslet was channeling the Catherine Deneuve character from Belle de Jour, about a housewife moonlighting as a daytime prostitute.

Here’s to big box office grosses for Revolutionary Road (co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio ) and The Reader!

Actress Kate Winslet bares much of herself for the December issue of Vanity Fair

Kate Winslet, 33, revealed not just her skin, but some of her insecurities in the December issue of Vanity Fair. In the interview, she talks about her family, her career and her personal issues with her skin.

Here’s an excerpt: “You know, these mothers are going to read this article and they’re all absolutely great, but I know when I walk into that classroom in the morning, even if it’s for a split second, at some point I’m being checked out. And some of them will even say to me, ‘OK, what’s the secret with the skin?’ At which point I’m like, ‘Oh my God, there’s no secret. I have makeup on. And by the way, since I turned 30, I’ve had an acne problem on my chin. I’m just like everybody else — I just know how to cover it. If you’d like me to show you how, I’d be more than happy.'”

Winslet might share the same body image issues as most women — being that she’s a mother of two — but let’s not forget she’s also quite unique given that she’s a five-time Academy Award nominee and only in her 30s. The English dame has also starred in highly acclaimed films, including Sense and Sensibility, Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

A-list actor Leonardo DiCaprio praises Winslet in the Vanity Fair piece, calling Winslet the “most talented actress of her generation.” DiCaprio played Winslet’s lover in Titanic. He now stars as her husband in an upcoming film Revolutionary Road, which is directed by Winslet’s real-life husband Sam Mendes. In an e-mail to VF DiCaprio stated:

“Her working script is riddled with notes, with different colored bookmarks, every page has detailed reference points for her to infuse into her role. She takes on her characters like a detective might survey a crime scene.”

Keep it up, Winslet … but quit smoking cigarettes, please. She also confessed to VF that she’s been lighting up since age 19.

The December issue hits shelves November 11. Read more of the interview at VanityFair.com.

How the Titanic twosome turned into sad suburbans

THE LAST time Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio worked together, on Titanic, Kate got to go to the Academy Awards while her leading man was snubbed by Academy voters.  This time, I predict both will be attending.

Kate Winslet Not Playing Vivienne Westwood

Kate Winslet has shot down reports she is set to portray British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood on the big screen.

Reports surfaced at the weekend that Winslet, 32, was being lined up for the role.

And a spokesperson for Westwood was quoted by a British newspaper as saying, “The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne. It has been a long time in the planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening.”

But the Titanic actress’ rep says the reports are “not at all true.”

A Vivienne Westwood spokesman added, “The script has not even been finished yet, let alone casting. Kate Winslet was just one of many names that were mentioned as possibles to play Vivienne, but this whole thing has been blown completely out of proportion.”
