Kate Winslet Talks About Life, Love and Leo

It’s the reunion we’ve all been waiting for: Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio together again.

“You know we’re twelve years older than we were back then.” Kate tells momlogic, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at her. Even a dozen years after she starred in Titanic, Kate still looks just as she did when she played Leo’s tragic lover on screen — plus or minus a few laugh lines, of course.

But even after all these years, that infamous chemistry with Leo is still there. This time the Oscar-nominated duo are sharing the big screen in their new film, Revolutionary Road. The film is a haunting look at the life of a 1950s suburban couple. And while Kate first fell in love with the book and relished her role as tortured soul April Wheeler, she tells momlogic that it was the opportunity to work with Leo once again that really made this film a true labor of love. “You know as actors I think we’ve both watched each other grow and change on screen. As friends we’ve gotten closer and closer together. The truth is that we’ve grown up. We’re older; we’re wiser you know hopefully we’re better actors. And I can say that he’s nicer than he was before. He’s funnier than he was before. He’s only changed for the better.”

And so has Kate — with motherhood and family infamously being a top priority in her busy life. In fact, shooting Revolutionary Road was a real family affair. Kate’s husband, Sam Mendes directed the film (yes, even the love scenes with Leo) and Kate’s kids, Mia and Joe, come along as well.

But while other Hollywood moms turn film sets into virtual day care centers, Kate confesses to momlogic that she takes a slightly different approach. “We were able to shoot the movie during the children’s summer vacation from school. We shot the movie up in Darien, Conn., rented a house out there and the children were with us, every day. They went to a local day camp and they did visit the set, but I’m not one of those people who like to bring the children to set every single day. You know, because I can’t concentrate on being a mom — when I’m playing April Wheeler, you can’t do all those things. I can’t hold those two things in my head. I’m not that much of a multi-tasker.”

So, will Kate and Leo reignite their infamous on-screen chemistry? Find out when Revolutionary Road opens on December 26th.

It’s a tough job, lad, but someone’s got to do it …

Kate WINSLET and the teenage actor she makes love to in her latest movie spent hours choreographing every move.

The actress told me that the woman she plays, a former Nazi prison camp guard, ‘looks like a carthorse, or an ox or something’, adding: ‘She looks very strapping; there’s a physical, almost masculine look about her.’

Yet, the minute her character disrobes on screen, her body looks sensational: curvy yet sleek.

Kate the Fearless

Spend time around Kate Winslet, and the subject of food is bound to come up sooner or later. You may not have known, for instance, that the last job she had before breaking into the movies was behind the counter in a delicatessen. “I made sandwiches. I cut up cheese. I ground coffee,” she says. “I loved it!”

To this day, Winslet likes to unwind in the kitchen. “I do endless chopping and preparing things,” she tells me. “I really find that relaxing. I do a lot of thinking as I am chopping and cooking.” And then there’s the revelation she had a few weekends ago—where else but in a restaurant? Winslet and her husband, director Sam Mendes, had gone out for lunch with their young daughter and son—a relatively rare occasion, the actress insists. “We like them to see those things as a treat, as they should be—and still are to me, actually.” She smiles. “We were having lunch, and I was having a glass of wine and eating bread and putting butter on the bread, and I turned to Sam and said, ‘I am just so happy!’”

Kate Winslet Allows Leo DiCaprio to Strangle Her until She Passes Out

We’re learning a lot about Kate Winslet as we get closer to the release of her two latest films, Revolutionary Road and The Reader. We already know she doesn’t use a stunt ass. Now Leonardo DiCaprio reveals a bit more of her process than she may have wanted us to know. “We’re old friends and we know where we can go with each other,” DiCaprio is quoted as saying in The Guardian. “She will let me strangle her until she literally passes out in the scene.” I don’t remember the strangulation scene in Titanic, so presumably that’s something to look forward to in Revolutionary Road, which reunites the sinking ship co-stars for the first time.

“‘We were very interested to let it go and see where it went. I was like, “If you want to smash me up, OK, you want to smash me up”,’ said Winslet at a Q&A session which followed a screening of the film in Los Angeles at the weekend… In the middle of [filming a confrontation scene over breakfast] Leo and I became completely hysterical. We had to laugh or else we were going to cry.”

As for The Reader, it probably won’t come as much of a shock to learn that the oft-nude Winslet bares all again. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Winslet “refused to use a body double or lose weight for the scenes, wanting a completely realistic look for her character. Describing her own body, Kate admits to having aged, but maintains she is proud of her flawed physique, saying: ‘Here we go, I have a crumble baby belly, boobs are worse for wear after two kids… I’m doing all right. I’m 33. I don’t look in the mirror and go, “Oh, I look fantastic!” Of course I don’t.'” We at the Screengrab respectfully disagree.

Kate Winslet: ‘I had a great time filming with Leonardo DiCaprio’

Kate Winslet had a “great time” working with former co-star Leonardo DiCaprio again.

The pair – who starred together in the 1997 film Titanic – have reunited for the first time since in new movie Revolutionary Road – directed by Winslet’s husband Sam Mendes.

And Kate says the chemistry was still there – after 11 years.

She says, “It was like we had been working together only yesterday.

“I hadn’t realized how much my chemistry with him has stuck over the years. We had a great time together making this film.

“It was great to be able to work with my best friend and my husband all at the same time.”

Kate Winslet’s dual Best Actress nomination Oscar dilemma

British actress Kate Winslet has placed herself in a dilemma after two of her major movies were slotted for release at the same time.

The movies could get Winslet, who has been nominated for an Academy Award five times, another nomination for Best Actress, which is impossible as the Academy does not allow for two nominations.

According to Fox news, the only solution to the problem would be that Winslet could be touted for Best Actress in Revolutionary Road, directed by husband Sam Mendes, and for Best Supporting Actress in The Reader, from director Stephen Daldry.

Two different studios are handling the movies, Paramount for Revolutionary Road, and Weinstein Company for The Reader.
