Kate Winslet beauty secret at Golden Globes:

Kate Winslet’s Golden Globes beauty secret is down to “pretty simple” cosmetics costing less than £45, her make-up artist has disclosed.

The British actress, who won two awards for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, was described by the Los Angeles Times as a “study in restraint” for her appearance at the ceremony in Beverly Hills

Miss Winslet, 33, took to the stage to deliver a breathless acceptance speech in which she implored herself to “Gather!” and managed to forget the name of fellow nominee Angelina Jolie.

Kate Winslet favourite to follow Golden Globes with Oscar win

Kate Winslet is an “absolute certainty” to win at least one Oscar following her success at the Golden Globes, according to the bookmakers.

William Hill is offering odds of 1/5 – the shortest price since Dame Helen Mirren won for The Queen in 2007.

“Kate had better get practising her Oscar acceptance speech as we think she is an absolute certainty to win an Oscar this time around,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

Blubbing Kate and the Brits’ goldrush

From the star who never wins, a gushing thank-you speech that never ends.

AS she tearfully explained, she has a habit of not winning.

Which is probably why Kate Winslet was so determined to soak up every second of glory as she accepted her two Golden Globe awards.

Unfortunately she could barely get her words out for crying.

But that didn’t stop the 33-year-old British actress from delivering two of the most rambling, tearful and gushing speeches after winning best supporting actress and best actress awards at the Los Angeles ceremony.

Backstage Report: What Was Kate Winslet Packing in Her Purse?

Kate Winslet wins and reveals the joys of blotting papers. Laura Dern wins and revisits her 1980s-hair past.

Here’s a rundown of the night’s backstage doings—and sayings:

5:20 p.m.: “I feel surprised…I feel relieved. I’ve been nervous all day,” says Winslet, who still looks jittery. One’s first major Hollywood award ever after a bajillion nominations will do that to one, apparently, and to Winslet, specifically.

• When Winslet accepted her award, she opened her purse, revealing to the camera what appeared to be two pieces of paper. Were they two acceptance speeches, one for The Reader and one for Revolutionary Road, for which she’s up for Best Drama Actress? Has the award-deprived Winslet come fully armed tonight? Yes, in a way. In the makeup department.

“They were blotting papers,” Winslet tells me. “It wasn’t a second speech. No further expectations.”

• Blotting papers are papers used to, yes, blot. If you must know the nitty-gritty details, they’re used to blot residue from your face. If your oily face has never heard of them, you’ve got company. “Somebody told me about them tonight,” blotting-paper convert Winslet reports.
