Kate Winslet to move back to the U.K.

Kate Winslet is reportedly packing up and moving back to the U.K. She’s lived in New York for the last seven years, but her split from husband Sam Mendes has made her want to return to England.

According to the Daily Mail, Kate is in “turmoil” over the divorce. A source close to the actress said, “Kate is in meltdown mode and doesn’t know quite what to do.”

Apparently Kate wants to be near her parents and her close friend Emma Thompson, who both live across the pond. “Kate feels she needs a support system, but she is torn because doesn’t want to disrupt her kids and is able to be very low key in New York,” continued the source.

The latest on why Sam and Kate decided to split is that he told her he didn’t think he could be with one woman for the rest of his life. A close friend of Kate’s told the Mail, “Sam had been really withdrawn and had shut himself away from her. They then had this big talk and he told her ‘people can’t be inspired by just one relationship. For me, it’s never going to be about one relationship… life is a series of relationships.’

Kate told him ‘For me it is, that’s what I want’, but Sam replied ‘Well, that’s not what I want’ and they both knew the marriage could not go on, it was hopeless. Kate did not want to break up, she had been trying her best to keep things together for months, but in the end it was just too much.”

It seems like men in the public eye lately don’t realize how lucky they are to be dating smart, beautiful women! Sam Mendes, Jesse James, and Tiger Woods should be grateful for what they had!

Kate Winslet reportedly moving back to the UK

Following the shock news of her split from husband Sam Mendes, reports are circulating that Kate Winslet may move back to the UK.

“The people she’s close to in New York are mums in schools but she thinks that will all change and her real friends — Emma Thompson, her sister Anna and her parents — are all over here,” a source tells the Daily Mail.

“Kate feels she needs a support system, but she is torn because doesn’t want to disrupt her kids and is able to be very low key in New York.” The Oscar-winner has lived in the Big Apple with her two children and husband Sam for seven years.

Meanwhile, as reports suggest Kate had become “frustrated” about the relationship between her husband and actress Rebecca Hall, a source close to Sam insists there was nothing but friendship between them.

“Sam and Rebecca are good friends, of course they are, they have spent the better part of a year working together on the Bridge Project. But to insinuate that there is anything further in the friendship is taking it too far.”

“Untitled Comedy” full press release

And to clarify, this is not a comedy that’s currently lacking a title. Untitled Comedy is the title. The film, which is currently in production, will be composed of a series of loosely related comedic sketches, featuring a plethora of different actors and directors. If you think it sounds a little bit like those atrocious Movie movies (you know, the ones brought to you by 2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie), rest assured that Farrelly and co. have assembled a heap of high-end talent to bring their sketches to life. Stepping in front of the camera will be Elizabeth Banks, Gerard Butler, Kieran Culkin, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott, Tony Shalhoub, Emma Stone, Matt Walsh, Patrick Warburton, Naomi Watts, and Kate Winslet. Behind the camera, Elizabeth Banks, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, Griffin Dunne, and Farrelly himself have already helmed sequences, with more directors and cast slated to climb aboard as things progress.

The film is said to be in the mould of classic sketch comedies like John Landis The Kentucky Fried Movie, the 1977 flick penned by spoof masters David Zucker and Jim Abrahams (Airplane!) and Ken Shapiro’s 1974 skewering of television, The Groove Tube. Hopefully, that paints a picture for you. Hit the jump for the full press release and my thoughts on the project.

Producing alongside Farrelly and Relativity are independent production company GreeneStreet Films as well as Charles Wessler, who has collaborated with Farrelly on such films as There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. While I’m generally wary of movies that employ this kind of sketch structure, Wessler offers a rock solid argument for why this one will be a success. “We all sat down and came up with what we think is a hilarious through-line for the movie… Given the amount of pot I had smoked, at least I think it is hilarious.” If nothing else, with the quality of talent in front of the camera and this guy behind it, I’m really curious to see what they end up with.

Kate Winslet supported by Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is helping pal Kate Winslet deal with her marriage breakdown, it has emerged.

DiCaprio and Winslet rose to fame playing lovers in Titanic and were reunited on screen two years ago in Revolutionary Road – directed by her husband Sam Mendes.

It has been claimed that the actress’ relationship with Mendes, 44, suffered on set and eventually led to their break-up.

The couple separated several months ago and made the split official on Monday.

However, DiCaprio has become a shoulder to cry on as cracks appeared in her six-year marriage.

“Leo and Kate have been like brother and sister since they starred in Titanic together,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“And since Kate’s marriage started to go south, around the time they were filming Revolutionary Road, they’ve got closer again. Kate has always really adored Leo and feels like she can tell him anything. They were so young when Titanic came out, so it’s fair to say they basically grew up together, professionally at least.

“They were thrust into stardom together and were the only people who knew what the other was going through. He’s been a rock for her,” the source added.

Further details about Kate and Sam separation

Kate Winslet has fled to Mexico for a holiday with her children after her break-up from Sam Mendes.

The Oscar-winning actress and film director announced yesterday that they had agreed to separate after nearly seven years of marriage.

The couple confirmed they had parted earlier this year, which may explain why Winslet cut a lonely figure on the red carpet at the Oscars last week.

And he is believed to be staying in New York while Winslet took their son, Joe, 6, and her daughter from a previous marriage, Mia, 9, to Mexico.

Pictures of her on a boat with the children emerged as it transpired the pair’s relationship hit the rocks after they made a film together about a couple who break up.

Months of stormy rows followed the filming of Revolutionary Road, in which Mendes directed his wife co-starring with Leonardo DiCaprio, friends said last night.

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes announce split

This totally ruined my day, you guys… :'(

Kate and Sam

Oscar winner Kate Winslet has split from her director husband Sam Mendes after almost seven years of marriage. The Titanic actress wed American Beauty filmmaker Mendes in 2003 on the Caribbean island of Antigua. They have a son, Joe, who was born in December 2003, and Winslet also has a daughter, Mia Honey, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton.

British beauty Winslet set up home with Mendes in New York City, but it was announced on Monday that they have now parted ways.

In a statement, a representative for the couple says, “They are saddened to announce they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”

More info on “The Catch” project

Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet star in a segment called The Catch in a multi-sketch film shot by Peter Farrelly (of the Farrelly brothers) and several other directors. Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are other actors working on this project.

The other directors in this film include actors Elizabeth Banks and Griffin Dunne, Brett Ratner (New York, Je T’aime, X-Men: The Last Stand), and Charles Wessler (Dumb and Dumber and the upcoming Three Stooges).

This collaborative idea from Farrelly and Wessler strings together a series of stories with a unifying theme, similar to films in the 1970s such as Kentucky Fried Movie. The two worked on There’s Something About Mary. Based on the success of ensemble films like Valentine’s Day, a star-studded film with a modest budget could well work again.
