Kate Winslet proves even Hollywood superstars count pennies

The Titanic star was spotted with her children Mia and Joe taking the big bag of coins to a New York bank to change into notes.

Kate Winslet has shown that even Oscar-winning stars count their pennies as she was spotted cashing in $75 in loose change.

The Titanic star was spotted with her children Mia and Joe taking the big bag of coins to a New York bank to change into notes.

Winslet, who recently split from husband Sam Mendes, then got flustered when the bank told her she could not convert the coins because she did not have an account there — leading a Good Samaritan behind her to help.

After converting the coins, Winslet removed her sunglasses — and only then did her helper realize who she was.

“Oh my — are you Kate Winslet?!” he stammered, to the amusement of onlookers at the Chase bank.

Winslet laughed and nodded, and later was overheard telling the chivalrous Samaritan that her kids were about to spend the day with the baby-sitter while she headed to work shooting her new miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Video: Kate narrates for PETA against foie gras

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is narrating a new video for PETA to try and help stop the production of foie gras.

The Reader star, 34, narrates a new video calling for a ban on the sale of the delicacy and the clip has been sent to department stores across the world, including Fortnum and Mason in London and El Corte Ingles in Madrid.

The video also shows undercover footage of what the ducks and geese have to go through to make the “delicacy of despair” and it is hoped it will persuade bosses to take it off the shelves.

Winslet says: “To produce foie gras, ducks and geese are force-fed enormous amounts of grain and fat, which causes their livers to swell to many times the normal size.”

Kate Winslet narrates anti foie gras video

Kate Winslet has lent her voice to narrate a new video on the cruelty of foie gras.

“Foie gras is sold as an expensive delicacy in some restaurants and shops, but no one pays a higher price for foie gras than the ducks and geese who are abused and killed to make it,” Winslet says in a video for PETA.

“Please join us in helping ducks and geese by pledging never to eat foie gras.”

Foie gras is a delicacy produced by force feeding geese to a point where their livers swell tremendously, up to ten times their normal size.

As a result, the animals become sick and unable to move naturally.

The birds’ throats often bleed from the tubes placed in them for feeding and according to The Daily Latest News, the bodies of the birds who have died show heavy internal bleeding, fungal and bacterial infections and hepatic encephalopathy – a brain ailment caused by liver failure.

Winslet joins several other British celebrities who’ve spoken against the industry, including Sir Roger Moore.

Winslet’s feathered friends

Vogue cover girl and Oscar winner Kate Winslet is lending her support to a campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) – appealing to some of Britain’s top chefs to banish foie gras from their menus.

“Foie gras is sold as an expensive delicacy in some restaurants and shops. But no one pays a higher price for foie gras than the ducks and geese who are abused and killed to make it,” Winslet tells today’s Daily Telegraph.

The actress has narrated a video featuring footage Peta claims was filmed undercover on a foie gras farm – in which geese and ducks are shown to be in cramped and apparently filthy conditions.

Urging consumers to boycott foie gras in restaurants, Winslet described the production of it as being a “terrifying and painful” experience for the ducks and geese.

Winslet refuses to feel guilty over career

The Titanic star, who recently split from husband Sam Mendes, has a daughter Mia, nine, and a six-year-old son Joe.

But the actress insists she came under scrutiny from the press when she left her kids at home to continue working in the film industry, and the negative portrayal of her parenting left her in despair.

She tells Britain’s The Times, “I don’t feel guilty about working now. When Mia was younger I did, but that was largely to do with the press. You know, ‘She’s off and the child gets left behind.’ You just want to kill yourself when you read those things.

“Mia and Joe are not onset movie kids. I don’t ever have them hang out in the trailer, because I don’t like the notion that they are sort of beholden to my schedule, not knowing when they’re going to see me. I’d rather, you know, give them a big kiss in the morning before I go off to work.”

Kate Winslet wants to move out

Kate Winslet wants to move out of the New York apartment she shared with estranged husband Sam Mendes.

The 34-year-old actress is reportedly desperate to leave the $6 million property in the Chelsea district of the city because of all the memories it holds. Since Kate and Sam announced they were splitting after almost seven years of marriage, the director has been living in the same converted warehouse building as his office is based there.

“Kate really wants to leave the apartment,” a source told the New York Post newspaper. “She sees it as a house of horrors because of the fights she and Sam had there. She feels it is tainted.”

However, Kate looks set to spend several more months living in the apartment because she is due to begin filming new TV mini-series Mildred Pierce, which is based on a novel by James M. Cain in New York.

It has been claimed Kate and Sam are keen to avoid a high-profile court battle to agree on custody arrangements for the two children they raise together — six-year-old son Joe and Mia Honey, Kate’s daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton — and to split their shared fortune, worth an estimated $45 million.

Kate and Sam married in May 2003 on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. After announcing the split earlier this month, it emerged they had parted ways earlier in the year and had reportedly grown apart following a series of arguments.
