Roman Polanski’s “Carnage” will hit the U.S.

Ready for another round of debate as to whether or not Roman Polanski should be allowed back into the United States in order to attend awards shows? Well then good news, because Polanski’s latest movie Carnage is all set up to get a distribution deal, and it looks like a film that will be getting a lot of attention come awards season. Deadline Topanga Canyon reports that Michael Barker and Tom Bernard of Sony Pictures Classics are close to signing a deal to release the film, that was packaged by ICM, here in the US.

Carnage is an adaptation of a Tony Award winning play by Yasmina Reza. It tells the story of the aftermath of a schoolyard brawl between two 11 year-old boys. The boys’ parents turn out to be just as irrational as their children, and when they meet to talk over the scuffle a series of arguments and chaotic disagreements over various hot-button issues becomes the norm for the night. The stage play’s original cast consisted of James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Jeff Daniels, and Hope Davis, but none of those actors reprise their roles for Polanski’s film version. That would probably be seen as a huge disappointment, except for the fact that Polanski got Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, and Kate Winslet to replace them. Wow, way to be a one-upper Roman.

  1. As I haven’t seen the stage or screen version of Carnage, I guess its not fair to say which cast would be better but as Kate is the greatest anyway thats all there is to say. As for the Roman Polanski debate, I agree he is a wonderful director but if he should be allowed back into the states, im afraid i dont have an opinion on that.

  2. Glad to hear that the film will be released soon. I’m looking forward to watch it!

  3. I’m very torn on this. I do not think Polanski should be allowed back in the US. I make no excuses for disgusting behavior like his, no matter how good the work. However, I very much want to see Kate’s performance. So I suppose they got me didn’t they… For the actor’s sake, I hope they don’t have to do a promotion tour.

  4. I am not here to juge people’s actions. By the way, this was a long time ago and I’m sure he learned his lesson. I think his work is remarkable and with Kate in one of his films is a wonderful thing. I’m sure Kate made the right decision in participating in Carnage. Can’t wait to see it.

  5. I can’t wait to see the film. I absolutely LOVE Kate Winslet. As far as Roman Polanski goes. I think he is an outstanding film Director. But I do think he should have to live by the same laws as a common man in this country. If this means he may have another film that he won’t get the proper credit for his hard work from this country I think that it’s the price he’ll have to pay for a decision he made long ago.
