Open auditions are being held to find a child to appear in the film adaptation of the novel, the Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society.
Filmmakers are looking for a girl from Guernsey to play the part of Kit, who is aged between four and six.
The character is the adopted child of Juliet Ashton, who will be played by Kate Winslet.
The open auditions are due to be held on Saturday at St. Sampson’s High School between 09:00 and 14:30 GMT.
Last week it was confirmed some of the scenes would be filmed in Guernsey.
Theater schools in the island have been approached to put forward girls for private auditions on Friday.
Kelly Valentine Hendry, who is responsible for the casting, said they were looking for a natural and previous experience of acting was not necessary.
She said there was no need to book for the open casting, that only one parent could attend per child and those girls attending should take along a small box containing three items they particularly like or find interesting to talk about.

Actress Kate Winslet is set to fete her Mildred Pierce co-star Guy Pearce with a special award for his career achievements at an event recognizing notable Australians.
Pearce will be one of three guests of honor, alongside basketball player Luc Longley and musical duo Air Supply, at the 9th annual G’Day USA Los Angeles Black Tie Gala on January 14.
G’Day Usa Organising Committee Chairman Wally Mariani says, “We are thrilled to have Kate Winslet present her Mildred Pierce co-star Guy Pearce with the Excellence in Film & Television Award at this year’s G’Day USA Los Angeles Black Tie Gala, especially the night before the Golden Globes, when they are both nominees.”
The prizegiving is part of the three-week G’Day USA Australia Week programme.
Previous honorees include Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts.
Kate Winslet is set to see the doomed ship Titanic for real — courtesy of billionaire Sir Richard Branson.
The Virgin boss had recently divulged his plan to join other tourists paying 38,000 pounds each for a submarine 12,500ft dive to the wreck of Titanic in the North Atlantic, the Daily Mail reported.
“It is something I am very keen to do. I’m deadly serious about this and I would love to invite Kate to come with me,” Branson said.
“Wouldn’t it be something if the star of Titanic really got to go down to the real ship? I’m going to talk to her but I’m sure it’s an opportunity she will jump at.”
It is one of the most iconic images in film history. When Kate Winslet stood on the prow of the Titanic in the blockbuster 1997 film, it turned her into an overnight superstar.

Kate Winslet waxwork joins Madame Tussauds
The Titanic star is a new addition to Madame Tussauds and has been placed with other British acting talents such as Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench.
Model-makers spent months perfecting the figure of Winslet, 36, who won an Emmy for her title role in miniseries Mildred Pierce earlier this year.
The wax replica has been draped in the red cap-sleeve Elie Saab dress which she wore to collect her prize at the ceremony.
Recent additions have included Rihanna and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.
Rihanna’s figure features one of her many tattoos, which starts on the right side of her stomach and extends so it is parallel with her bum cheek.
It took four months to complete and cost £150,000 to create.
The model stands alongside Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and the late Amy Winehouse in the museum’s music section.
A sexy Kylie Minogue wax model caused controversy when it was unveiled in 2002.
The singer was posed on all fours, dressed in a red silk basque and thigh-length leather boots, in racy underwear.
The skirt on the figure reportedly had to be lengthened after fans kept lifting it up to look at her famous bottom.
