British Film Forever

Last year, Kate gave some interviews to a one season series called “British Film Forever”. This series had altogether 7 episodes, and Kate participated in 4 of them.

From Gandhi, Four Weddings And A Funeral, to Brief Encounter and Bend It Like Beckham, Britain has been a major player in world cinema for over 100 years and continues to produce award-winning talent.

The Summer Of British Film on BBC Two is a season dedicated to home grown cinema, encompassing all genres from thriller and comedy to the kitchen sink drama.

This unique television event celebrates the rich heritage of British film and has at its centrepiece British Film Forever a seven-part primetime series for BBC Two.

Jessica Hynes (Nee Stevenson, Shaun Of The Dead) guides us through the series examining British film by genre, with highlights from over 200 exclusive interviews from leading actors and directors including Sir Michael Caine, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet, Ewan McGregor, Gurinder Chadha and Richard Curtis.

The series was made with the support of the British Film Institute and the UK Film Council.

Here are the episodes Kate had a part in:

Episode 1: Guns, Gangsters and Getaways: The Story of the British Crime Thriller
Episode 2: Longing, Loving and Leg-Overs: The Story of British Romance
Episode 4: Corsets, Cleavage and Country Houses: The Story of British Costume Drama
Episode 7: Sauce, Satire and Silliness: The Story of British Comedy

And of course, here on KWF you can see the screen captures and watch all of those!

This ghost is a world star!

Buhhuuuu! Don’t get a shock now!

What’s here just going across the Kantstrasse (Charlottenburg) is only looking like a ghost…

The woman underneath the towel is Hollywood star Kate Winslet (32, Titanic) during the shooting of The Reader a film based on the novel by Bernhard Schlink (63).

Right in front of the land registry she got screened by photographers so that she was able to creep into the mask. According to set Рinsiders Winslet totally pored into her role and is hardly addressable at the film set. But mercifully she is it in the film: Yesterday she had a shooting with Hollywood colleague Ralph Fiennes (45). Further recordings are going to be shot in the memorial place Hohensch̦nhausen.

New video + old interview (better version) with screen captures

Found a better version of Kate on Parkinson on October of 2006. So I took screen captures and added the video to the archives. Also, since Kate tells what happened in a French talk show on Parkinson, I deided to upload that video as well. It’s kinda disgusting, but funny. :P

Short interview about “The Holiday”

Q: What appealed to you about the film?
Kate: I’ve never actually been a modern English girl in a film. I’ve spent a lot of time in my career wearing corsets. So this was a thrill to me.

Q: What was it like working with Jack Black?
Kate: We just had an absolute blast. It was very hard to keep a straight face. For pretty much everything we did. That was an acting challenge.

Q: What was your favorite scene?
Kate: It’s the first morning that Iris wakes up in this house. She turns on the radio, and there’s this fantastic piece of music that starts blaring. I was doing an air guitar with the pillow, head banging, thrashing around. I just had a blast.

Thanks to fan Cheryl for sending in this interview!

Well Played: Kate Winslet

Here at GFY, we are often asked, “Don’t you girls like ANYTHING?” The answer, of course, is no. We hate kittens and babies and Christmas. We hate presents and kissing and ice cream. We hate lip gloss and Luke Perry and football.

Listen, of course we like things. We like lots of things. I like all those things I just mentioned, especially the ice cream. But the website is not called Hey, I Love Your Outfit.com. That being said, sometimes we like to feature people wearing things we love (especially if they often wear things we don’t), and sometimes we like to give a shout out to people who almost always look good. (I believe the kids used to call this “giving props.”) Today, it’s the latter…

Your Best Actress Academy Award Nominees… of 2009

I know the Oscars only ended like um, not even two weeks ago. And I know it’s absolute insanity to begin talking about next year’s Best Actress race, but what can I say? I’m certifiable.

Now, you can’t always foresee an Ellen Page or a Marion Cotillard nomination. The best you can do is predict your picks based on pedigree. And the following actresses seem to have the right genetic makeup to make them contenders for a nomination in 2009.
