Kate set to play style icon Viv

KATE WINSLET is to play designer VIVIENNE WESTWOOD in an upcoming biopic.

The Titanic actress has been cast as the fashion icon for the Universal film about her life from the Seventies to the present.

Quirky Vivienne who has been credited with rewriting the rules of taste, will meet Kate to talk about the movie when the script is finished.

A source said: “Vivienne is a British icon and it was about time a film was made about her. Fashionistas all over the world adore her.”

“Not only is she an amazing designer, she’s also an incredible character. She has managed to lead a real rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle without destroying her talent.”

“The script will be easy to write because her life is packed full of stories.”

“Kate Winslet is an excellent choice to play Vivienne. She’ll be fantastic.”

The self-taught designer — who made her name by bringing punk fashions to the mainstream — used to own the Sex fashion boutique on London’s Kings Road in the Seventies along with her second husband and SEX PISTOLS manager MALCOLM McLAREN.

She now runs one of the most successful fashion houses in the world with a chain of exclusive shops including those in London, Manchester and Liverpool.

A Vivienne Westwood spokesman confirmed: “The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne. It has been a long time in planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening.”

Winslet to play Vivienne Westwood

Kate Winslet is being lined up to play Vivienne Westwood in a biopic about the legendary fashion designer’s life.

Overheard front row at Westwood’s Gold Label fashion show in Paris last night, the designer’s managing director, Carlo D’Amario, told guests: “Kate Winslet will play Vivienne from the 70s to the present day.”

It’s thought Universal will produce the film, which is sure to be a big hit with London’s fashion crowd.

There’s no confirmation yet from either Winslet’s people, nor Universal for that matter, but we can’t wait to see Kate take on Britain’s favourite fashion face.

Wonder if she’ll dare recreate Vivienne’s Buckingham Palace flashing incident?

“Reader” release is set

The Oscar race just got more interesting.

The Weinstein Co. will release the Scott Rudin-produced postwar tale The Reader this year after all, resolving a long-brewing drama between two of the prestige world’s most well-known figures and giving a longtime awards player like Harvey Weinstein a potential buzz candidate.

In a joint statement on Sunday, Rudin and Weinstein said that Stephen Daldry’s period love story told against the backdrop of a war-crimes trial would come out on Dec. 12, in keeping with the plan that for months Weinstein had supported and Rudin had resisted.

The trailer debuts this Friday (tomorrow!) with Keira Knightley’s The Duchess.

Movie tidbit: Pop singer Jesse McCartney’s younger brother, Timmy, is said to star in Revolutionary Road, but his role in the film is still unknown.

Kate Winslet to play a sex fantasist!

Titanic star Kate Winslet has emerged as the favourite to play protagonist Isadora Wing of a 1973 bestseller.

Directed by Diane English, the movie is an adaptation of Erica Jong’s controversial novel “Fear of Flying” (1973).

English revealed that Winslet is the only actress currently reading the script for the movie.

“I would love to see Kate Winslet in that role,” she said.

Jong hit the headlines with the novel because it chronicles a married woman’s attempts to live out her sexual fantasies.
