Books That Made a Difference to Kate Winslet
The five-time Oscar nominee wants to thank the old boyfriend who gave her a fascinating French novel of over-the-top amour-and a shot of intellectual confidence; the cookbook/storybook that turned her on to Italian cooking; and the haunting modern classic by Richard Yates that inspired her next film.An ex-boyfriend and I used to go to breakfast every Sunday in London at a funny old café near Earl’s Court. Afterward we’d go into this enormous bookstore, and we’d have to buy the other person a book. It was a really nice thing to do. I think sometimes when you’re young, and even when you’re older, purchasing a book for yourself or anyone else can be terrifying. I left school when I was 16, and I always felt – actually still do in some ways – intellectually insecure.He was 11 years older, this boyfriend, and this was his way of letting me know that it was perfectly okay to have an opinion, of helping me overcome my own insecurities – which is pretty spectacular. One day he picked up a copy of Thérèse Raquin, and I thought, You’ve got to be kidding me. But he said, “This is one of the most extraordinary love stories ever written.” And that book, which is one of the five that changed my life, has never left me.

Face to face with Kate Winslet
Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan gets a whiff as the actress talks about being herself and being the new face of Lancôme’s Trèsor fragrance.
Actress Kate Winslet is the new face for Lancôme’s fragrance, Trèsor. She speaks about the fragrance and working with Peter Lindbergh for the print ad and TV commercial.
Q: How did you come to be involved with Lancôme?
A: They approached me. It immediately appealed to me because I’ve never done anything like this before. And it felt like such an honor to step into the shoes of Isabella Rossellini who was Trèsor’s previous “face”. They wanted something beautiful, romantic and enigmatic for the ad. At the same time, they wanted to convey the message about being comfortable being yourself. I am of the same mind too. So it turned out well.
Though he cuts a swath quite different from that of your average musical-theater star, James Gandolfini worked hard to improve his hoofing skills for his new movie, Romance & Cigarettes.
But as he’ll happily tell you, it wasn’t easy.
“I would leave the dance lessons going: ‘Holy Christ, I’m so incredibly bad at this,’ ” said the former star of “The Sopranos.” “It was like me doing algebra or something. I had no clue about any of this.”
Judging by the film, he had a good teacher.

I’ve uploaded pics of Kate arriving at New York’s JFK Airport back from Los Angeles, on November 2nd, the day after the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards event. It seems she bumped into fellow actor/Romance & Cigarettes director John Turturro.

Kate’s Meeting Project: Accomplished
Many of you might remember our little project earlier this year that fan Janna, who also does awesome drawings of Kate, would try and give out to Kate a collage that fans over here at KWF helped get made:

Anyway, this is what happened, in Janna’s own words…
Well, I finally got it to Kate last night at the Britannia Awards after the show. Just wanted you to know and you can tell everyone and remind them.
After the show she was leaving the ballroom. My friends and I were waiting for her in the hotel lobby at the Century Plaza. My friends all got photos with her and I didn’t want to bother her for that, it was late and I already had one from before. So the only photo I have of her from the event is one with my friend Emily. Anyway, I gave her the second drawing I did. Just kind of haphazardly handed it to her in the middle of her taking photos with people. She paused and stared at it. She was very surprised. Bill Nighy was with her. She showed it to him and she said thank you. Then I gave her the envelope that had the collage in it. She didn’t open it right then ’cause she was leaving, but she said thank you for that as well. It was all very rushed. But I can tell you she has it, it has an index card inside crediting you personally and the website so she knows who created it for her.
All in all I was kind of in shock talking with her again and probably didn’t get all the things out that I wanted to say, but I’m happy she has her gifts!
What to say about this? Just WOW! Now we all can be sure that Kate knows we exist!!! Thank you so much, Janna! :D
