Kate Winslet in St. John’s behind-the-scenes video

She likes them, she really likes them!

After hitting the stage as the face of St. John’s theatrical-themed Fall 2011 campaign, Kate Winslet is opening up about her affection for the womenswear brand in a just-released behind-the-scenes video.

“St. John and the message they want to put across in their clothes is something that very much goes hand in hand with how I feel about being a woman, being a mother, and being an actress,” the British beauty asserts from the campaign’s Jersey City set.

“The clothes are cut beautifully, the fabrics are elegant, you can look extremely chic without trying too hard… These are the kind of clothes that I would wear.”

The Oscar winner, who succeeds past campaign stars like Angelina Jolie and Karen Elson, says she was drawn to the label because of its suitability for “real shapes.”

“You don’t feel as though they’re clothes that only a model would be able to wear,” the Lancôme brand ambassador says. “And obviously, I’m not a model, I don’t have a model’s body. I have a real shape, and that means a lot to me to be able to wear clothes that do embody that message that I’m constantly trying to put across, of strength and power and femininity in a real shape.”

Singling out a camel knit dress and gray drawstring-waist trousers paired with a cashmere twinset as her favorite pieces from the collection, the actress also discusses her personal style inspirations.

“Women that inspire me… it seems to change all the time,” she says. “Sometimes it goes from political figures to incredible actresses to members of my own family, but really at the moment I’m very much inspired by mothers, women who can pull it all together, do it all, and those moments when you think ‘I can’t go another day, I’m exhausted, I can’t cope,’ and you just have to keep on going. Those are the women that really inspire me, because those are the women who are setting examples to a future generation of young women, and that’s what I’m trying to do for my daughter.”

Kate Winslet: “Acting needs to be mysterious”

The 35-year-old actress, who’s set to star in Labor Day opposite Josh Brolin, has been nominated to receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.

“What I’ve learned about acting is that it needs to be mysterious. If you overthink how a beat needs to be played, it can trip you up,” Kate was recently heard telling a popular newspaper.

“Because you’re trying to do something that is real and sincere in the moment, so that people believe you.

There are times when you just have to put yourself as deeply and firmly in a character’s shoes as you can,” she added.

Kate Winslet: “Mildred Pierce was like Titanic”

Kate Winslet has claimed that working on HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce was as grueling an experience as filming scenes for Titanic.

The Oscar-winning actress, who stars in the drama alongside Mare Winningham and Guy Pearce, said that the five-part project was her most challenging role since the record-breaking 1997 blockbuster.

Winslet is quoted by the Belfast Telegraph as saying: “It was like doing two-and-a-half films in 16 weeks. I think this was so much harder than any film project I’ve done since Titanic.”

Meanwhile, the show’s director Todd Haynes revealed that Winslet was the one actress he envisioned in the role: “I had never met Kate, but I could not get her out of my mind while I was reading [the book]. She was the only actress I could see playing the part.”

Co-star Evan Rachel Wood claimed that Winslet, who reportedly did not want her breasts on show in the drama, said: “She coached me through my first nude scene. I mean, she’s done it all and was literally next to the camera going [thumbs up].”

Kate Winslet: “I was in love with Guy as a teen!”

Kate Winslet is one of Britain’s most successful movie actresses, but this week the Titanic star returns to television in an epic five-part adaption of James M Cain’s novel, Mildred Pierce, on Sky Atlantic.

The drama also features former Neighbours heartthrob Guy Pearce as her new love interest Monty, and True Blood‘s Evan Rachel Wood as her snobby daughter Veda. Kate told What’s On TV what made her choose Mildred…

What attracted you to the role?
“For me the director is always a really big pull. I’ve been a fan of Todd Haynes for many years and I’d also heard many wonderful things about him from other actors who I know. I was very, very excited and flattered that someone I respected want to see me. The scripts are wonderful. I could just feel there was gravity to them as a piece and it would really be challenging for me and they’re very true to the book. Also I saw Mildred as an extraordinary mixture of vulnerability and fragility, but strength at the same time. There were many things about her that I’d never played before which I found very exciting.

“There was also size of the production, too. I wanted to get my teeth into something that’s a big script and a huge project. It’s like a five-hour movie, rather than television.”

Winslet nominated for Hollywood star

Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lopez are among nominees announced to get their star on Hollywood’s storied Walk of Fame next year.

Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson will also get their names on the Hollywood Boulevard footpath in 2012, while actor Richard Burton and soul legend Barry White will get posthumous stars.

“The committee has selected a fabulous slate of stars to add sparkle and luster to the Hollywood Walk of Fame over the next year,” said John Pavlik on Tuesday, chairman of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Selection Committee.

Simpsons creator Matt Groening was also nominated, along with John Lasseter and Sumner Redstone from the film world, and musicians Boyz II Men and Ann and Nancy Wilson of the band Heart.

The selection committee is part of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the golden stars on the stretch of Hollywood Boulevard near Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre, home to the Oscars.

The nominees were chosen from hundreds of applicants considered at a June 17 meeting of the committee, whose decision was ratified by the Chamber’s board of directors.

While the nominations are for 2012, those chosen have up to five years to schedule ceremonies to unveil their stars, after which their selection will expire.

Kate Winslet “didn’t want breasts showing in ‘Mildred Pierce'”

Guy Pearce has claimed that Kate Winslet did not want her breasts showing when filming sex scenes in Mildred Pierce.

The actor told Sky Magazine that the show’s director Todd Haynes gave the cast specific advice to follow when filming love scenes.

Pearce said: “It’s really about choreographing things. ‘So I’ll be on top of Kate, then we’ll kiss?’ I’d ask.

“Todd would say, ‘I’d love for you to roll over, and I’d love Kate to be on top. Then I’ll have the light coming through the window and it will look lovely’.

“And Kate went, ‘Yes, but I don’t want my breasts showing’. It’s all very technical, but there’s this part of your mind going, ‘This is really erotic and strange’.”

Winslet has previously admitted that she hates stripping off for sex scenes, but later said that she looked good naked in her Oscar-winning performance in The Reader.

Co-star Evan Rachel Wood said that Winslet gave her advice and encouragement before she filmed her own nude scenes in Mildred Pierce.
