Further details about Kate and Sam separation

Kate Winslet has fled to Mexico for a holiday with her children after her break-up from Sam Mendes.

The Oscar-winning actress and film director announced yesterday that they had agreed to separate after nearly seven years of marriage.

The couple confirmed they had parted earlier this year, which may explain why Winslet cut a lonely figure on the red carpet at the Oscars last week.

And he is believed to be staying in New York while Winslet took their son, Joe, 6, and her daughter from a previous marriage, Mia, 9, to Mexico.

Pictures of her on a boat with the children emerged as it transpired the pair’s relationship hit the rocks after they made a film together about a couple who break up.

Months of stormy rows followed the filming of Revolutionary Road, in which Mendes directed his wife co-starring with Leonardo DiCaprio, friends said last night.

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes announce split

This totally ruined my day, you guys… :'(

Kate and Sam

Oscar winner Kate Winslet has split from her director husband Sam Mendes after almost seven years of marriage. The Titanic actress wed American Beauty filmmaker Mendes in 2003 on the Caribbean island of Antigua. They have a son, Joe, who was born in December 2003, and Winslet also has a daughter, Mia Honey, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton.

British beauty Winslet set up home with Mendes in New York City, but it was announced on Monday that they have now parted ways.

In a statement, a representative for the couple says, “They are saddened to announce they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”

More info on “The Catch” project

Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet star in a segment called The Catch in a multi-sketch film shot by Peter Farrelly (of the Farrelly brothers) and several other directors. Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are other actors working on this project.

The other directors in this film include actors Elizabeth Banks and Griffin Dunne, Brett Ratner (New York, Je T’aime, X-Men: The Last Stand), and Charles Wessler (Dumb and Dumber and the upcoming Three Stooges).

This collaborative idea from Farrelly and Wessler strings together a series of stories with a unifying theme, similar to films in the 1970s such as Kentucky Fried Movie. The two worked on There’s Something About Mary. Based on the success of ensemble films like Valentine’s Day, a star-studded film with a modest budget could well work again.

More “Mildred Pierce” cast details

HBO’s miniseries adaptation of Mildred Pierce has added several actors, including True Blood‘s Evan Rachel Wood, Guy Pearce and Oscar nominee Melissa Leo.

Brian F. O’Byrne (FlashForward) and James LeGros have also joined the project, which will star Kate Winslet. The adaptation of James M. Cain’s novel follows the title character (Winslet) as she attempts to make a better life for herself and win the love of her ungrateful daughter in Depression-era Los Angeles.

Wood, who next stars in the Robert Redford-directed The Conspirator, will play Mildred’s daughter Veda — which will require her to play younger, Winslet to play older, or both, as in real life Wood is only 12 years younger than Winslet.

Pearce (Memento, The Hurt Locker) will play Mildred’s wealthy lover, while Leo (Frozen River, Treme) will play her close friend. O’Byrne will be the husband Mildred leaves behind, and LeGros (Mercy) will play Pearce‘s business partner.

Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Far from Heaven) will direct the miniseries and is co-writing it with Jon Raymond. Filming is set to start in the spring.
