Kate is still playing the housewife in L.A.

Kate Winslet has turned her Oscar week into a family affair by bringing husband Sam Mendes and their young children Mia and Joe along for the ride.

“It’s half-term for my kids, so it made sense to turn the Oscars into a family holiday”, she told me. “We’ve been swimming and done lots of visits to places the kids loved.”

Oscar Predictions: What will the nominees wear?

You’ve seen my trend predictions, we’ve raided the couture shows for tips, and now I’m ready to make wild claims that’ll no doubt prove untrue. It’s time for the Catwalk Queen pre-Oscar predictions. Nope, I’m not guessing who’ll win the gongs, but what designers and looks the female nominees will go for. My money’s on Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet looking the best…

Kate Winslet in Little Children
Another beautiful Brit, and one who’s got it right time and time again at the Oscars, in memorable dresses from Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Ben De Lisi and Badgley Mischka. I reckon Kate might go back to one of those favorites this year, or perhaps turn to the latest big name for red carpet glamour — Marchesa — for her gown. I’d love to see her go for colour, perhaps a green or purple shade (Zac Posen is the man for that) or take a risk with a print. That said, she manages to make even the simplest gowns look amazing, so I’d be happy even if she went the safe route with something strapless and black!

Kate Winslet Teams Up With Mendes For Circus Film

Actress Kate Winslet is teaming up with her Oscar-winning director husband Sam Mendes to work on a new movie.Winslet, who has been married to the American Beauty filmmaker for three years, has been interested in playing the role of 1920s circus tiger tamer Mabel Stark since 2003.

And now Mendes’ company, Neal Street Productions, has bought the rights to adapt a fictionalized life of Stark by author Robert Hough.

The couple’s spokeswoman Sara Keene says, “It’s a great story, they’ve had their eye on it for a while. If they can get the script right, it would make a great film.”

However, the pair will be keen to avoid the same fate as other husband-and-wife projects, like Guy Ritchie’s Swept Away starring Madonna, and Rachel Weisz’s role in The Fountain, directed by fiancé Darren Aronofsky — both of which were commercial failures.
