The Australian star took to the stage at the glitzy Hollywood ceremony on Sunday night to accept a prize for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie for his role in Mildred Pierce.
Pearce couldn’t resist making a cheeky comment about his onscreen lover Winslet, telling the crowd, “I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times and I didn’t realize it was gonna result in this! So Kate, I share this with you — because you’re an extraordinary woman, thank you for allowing me to insert myself into the world of Mildred!”
Winslet is adamant she wasn’t embarrassed by her pal’s cheeky remarks as she is a longtime admirer of his, telling reporters backstage, “I’m thrilled. I’ve had a crush on Guy Pearce since I was 11 years old, so just to stand in the same room as him was thrilling for me and to hear him say that was even more of a buzz.”
Kate Winslet dedicated her first Emmy to her mum as she scooped the outstanding actress in a mini-series award last night.
The Oscar-winning actress won the award for her lead role in Mildred Pierce, beating Elizabeth McGovern, who plays the Countess of Grantham in ITV1’s Downton Abbey, which took four gongs.
The HBO drama tells the story of a divorced single mother who decides to open a restaurant business during 1930s Depression-era California.
Wearing a stunning red dress, the Titanic star thanked her mum Sally as she collected the award.
She said: “Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother but she was an extraordinary and a multi-tasker, and to that end I do have to share this with my mum.
“It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do in your life, you never stop needing your mum, and I will never stop needing mine.”
Our girl did it! Congrats, Kate!!! Also, congratulations to Kate’s co-star Guy Pearce! :D

While many aspiring Emmy nominees were in hair and makeup preparing to talk to the press when the nominations were announced in July, Kate Winslet was givin’ a chicken a lickin’.
“Nobody knows this, but I didn’t really know that the nominations were coming out that day,” the 35-year-old actress said by satellite from London last week while promoting her film Contagion.
Winslet starred in the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, based on the 1941 James M. Cain novel, which grabbed a top 21 Emmy bids.
“I was in England, and I was doing some really great daylong cookery classes with my best friend,” Winslet said. “And my best friend and I, that particular day, we happened to be doing a butchery class. And, literally, as the e-mail came through telling me that I had been nominated and that we had received 21 nominations overall — I am not kidding you — I was hacking up a chicken. Isn’t that great? I just love that story.”
Winslet is nominated for lead actress in a miniseries or movie for her title role in Mildred Pierce.

It’s official: movie number five for Jason Reitman will be Labor Day, and it will be produced through Paramount Pictures. This romantic drama, which sounds like quite a departure, finds a single mother who takes in a mysterious drifter with a dangerous past. Things get heated, erupting in a passionate affair over the titular holiday. While this seems like the type of thing we’d love with Shelley Winters and Robert Mitchum from the pen of Tennessee Williams, instead this is from the book by Joyce Maynard, with Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin as the illicit couple. Eh, not a huge downgrade.
Production on the film starts next June for a summer shoot, making this Reitman’s fourth collaboration with Paramount — Juno emerged via Fox Searchlight. It’s definitely a stretch for Reitman, who didn’t know a single moment of sincerity he couldn’t spike with air quotes, but we’d love to see what sort of chemistry exists between Brolin and Winslet.
Reitman’s latest, Young Adult, hits December 9th. The word seems uncertain as to the film’s status as an Oscar player, but Reitman’s last two films, Juno and Up In The Air, were pretty big contenders with a certain subset of voters. Paramount locking in Labor Day suggests a certain amount of confidence in Young Adult. In other words, this is a pretty cushy arrangement. Hey Jason, if you’re reading, can we borrow some money?
