Kate Winslet to move to London with estranged husband Sam Mendes as he shoots new Bond movie

The new James Bond movie will be a family affair for Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes.

The Oscar-winning film-maker is expected to direct Daniel Craig in the latest 007 adventure some time towards the end of next year, with the production likely to be based, as usual, at Pinewood film studios.

Kate revealed that their son Joe, seven, and Kate’s daughter Mia, ten, will move to the UK with her for the period of filming.

“Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we’ll all be in England if that happens. It’s such a massive commitment for him and it’s not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me,” Kate told me exclusively.

Kate and Sam separated last year but have remained on as friendly terms as possible, primarily because of the children — and because they still like each other, despite the split.

I asked Kate if there was a small role for her in the Bond picture, perhaps as a Bond girl? She laughed and shook her head and said: “No!”

However, she did not rule out the possibility of working with Sam again. “I can see us working together again — that’s the way it is.

“We’re really good friends and have very good respect for each other. I can see it, but you’d have to ask Sam what he thinks,” Kate told me.

Sam and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli have already had many meetings over casting, and Ms. Broccoli has visited the play Deathtrap twice to see Simon Russell Beale perform.

The leading actor is an old friend of Sam’s and they’re keen to work together again.

But before filming Bond, Sam will direct Kevin Spacey in Richard III at the Old Vic in June, as part of what’s called the Bridge Project.

It will be the final production of the theatrical partnership between the Old Vic, Neal Street Productions and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Kate has one more day of shooting in Chicago on Steven Soderbergh’s film Contagion, where she is part of a team trying to control a virus outbreak.

The film is a thriller with an ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Marion Cotillard.

Kate has done just nine days of filming on Contagion, spread over several weeks.

However, she laughed at erroneous reports suggesting she was packing up and moving to Chicago for good.

She and her two children are moving to France for nine weeks in the New Year, to film Roman Polanski’s screen version of Yasmina Reza’s play God Of Carnage.

The movie will be set in America — but shot in France — with Kate as an upper-middle-class executive married to a lawyer (played by Christoph Waltz).

The pair clash with another couple (Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly) over a playground incident involving their children.

In March, HBO will begin showing the five-part drama Mildred Pierce, in which Kate has the title role. Sky will broadcast it in the UK in June.

The mini-series is based on the James M. Cain Depression-era novel and directed by Todd Haynes.

Kate said everything was shot earlier in the year, but she has a small amount of post-production voice work still to complete.

Kate Winslet’s “secret love affair” with Michelle Williams

Oscar winner Kate Winslet admitted last Tuesday to a “secret love affair” with Michelle Williams, star of Blue Valentine.

Winslet told this a pretty highfalutin crowd at the Tribeca Grand Hotel screening room, for a showing of Blue Valentine and a chance to meet Williams–just returned from the UK, and director Derek Cianfrance.

In the crowd were people like big deal actress Hope Davis, Judd Hirsch, Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, and Kim Cattrall.

Winslet confessed to the assembled crowd that she’d only met Williams once and didn’t know her well at all. “But we have a secret relationship,” Winslet said. “I dream about her.” She spoke emotionally, saying that from Williams’ roles she felt she knew her and they had a bond. It was such a lovely speech that Williams started to cry.

“From a distance, I feel as though I’ve actually been having a secret love affair with Michelle,” said Winslet as she introduced the movie. “She and I are quite intimate in my fantasy friendship built on admiration and respect.” She added, “I’m talking about her acting, of course.”

“Contagion” to carry celebrities to Glencoe for four-day shoot

One residential block in north suburban Glencoe will be seeing stars next week.

The film crew for the action-thriller Contagion will be shooting scenes from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, said Paul Harlow, Glencoe village manager.

While shooting at Central School in Wilmette on Nov. 23, a production assistant said Glencoe’s scenes will include Matt Damon, Kate Winslet and possibly other stars of the film.

The movie, directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, is an action-thriller about a deadly disease outbreak, and features a host of A-list movie stars, such as Damon, Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne and others.

Set in winter, several yards on the Glencoe block will be covered with fake snow for the filming, Harlow said. One house in particular will be used for several interior shots, he said.

Glencoe Public Safety officers will be on the scene, Harlow said — their overtime paid through the film’s budget. He said residents and on-lookers are allowed to stand on the sidewalk when the filmmakers are there.

“It’s my understanding that they’re accommodating to the public viewing, but when it’s time to do the actual shooting we would assist them to make sure the scene is clear to meet their filming needs,” Harlow said.

He said Glencoe residents are supportive of the filming.

“I think there is a certain level of excitement and anticipation the community is given by this,” Harlow said. “This film, being a major motion picture with a significant number of actors with notoriety, it’s the kind of thing they seem to embrace.”

The last major film to shoot in Glencoe was Clint Eastwood’s war movie, Flags of Our Fathers, Harlow said. That movie, released in 2006, included scenes shot at the Glencoe train station.

“But that was just a single day of shooting,” Harlow said.

Kate Winslet splits from boyfriend, model Louis Dowler

The Revolutionary Road actress — who separated from her film director husband Sam Mendes in March — has reportedly called time on her romance with male model Louis Dowler after just four months of dating.

Despite being “very grateful” to the 35-year-old hunk for allowing her to get over the breakdown of her marriage, Kate is said to have ended the relationship to “concentrate on her career and children”.

A friend of the star told MailOnline: “Louis was just the tonic Kate needed after her painful split from Sam and they had a wonderful time.

However, they have realized their relationship isn’t working and Kate needs space to be on her own.

“She is very grateful to Louis for helping her pick her life back up after her marriage ended and they had a lot of fun together, but she felt it had come to an end and wants to concentrate on her career and children.”

Prior to the split, Kate — who has a six-year-old son Joe with Sam, as well as ten-year-old Mia from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton — had reportedly been contemplating marriage with the British model.

A pal recently said: “As far as Kate is concerned, they could go all the way together — get married, have kids. She’s the happiest we’ve ever seen her, he really brings out a wonderful, carefree side to her that we haven’t seen for years.”

“Contagion” spreading to Evanston

Add Evanston to the list of towns catching Contagion.

The feature film, which has already paid a visit to Chicago, Glenview and Naperville, will be in Evanston for one day of shooting Dec. 13, city officials recently announced.

Filming will take place on the empty lot formally occupied by Kendall College, at Lincoln Street and Orrington Avenue, officials said.

A cast and crew of 700 will descend on the lot, which will be transformed into a youth baseball field for the scene. National Guard transport vehicles will also be present, as will one of the film’s stars, actor Matt Damon.

Residents will be notified of parking restrictions and street closures when that information is finalized. Officials said the film’s crew would spend three days prior to shooting preparing the site, and two days after filming restoring the lot and adjacent Long Field, where cast and crew service tents and trailers will be located.

The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh and also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Kate Winslet, centers on a deadly virus outbreak. The Evanston scene, according to officials, will comprise about a minute of the movie and will depict citizens gathering to receive food supplies being dropped by National Guard helicopters — which in a bit of Hollywood magic, will be played by a large crane.

The film is set to be released Oct. 21, 2011, according to IMDb.

Contagion is not the first time Hollywood has come to Evanston. The city has been featured in such films as 2002’s Road to Perdition, 1984’s Sixteen Candles and 1989’s Uncle Buck, among others.
