In aid of her charity, the Golden Hat Foundation, which helps improve the lives of autistic children, Winslet has released a small beauty collection, including the face-illuminating Poudre Lumière, a L’Absolu Rouge lipstick, and Mini Le Vernis, a range of smaller-sized nail polishes in red and pink. Prices range from $15 to $40.
Lancôme has said it will be donating at least 150,000 euros from the collection’s sales to the Golden Hat Foundation, whose logo is embossed in gold onto the products and packaging.
Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are now finding a way to update some of their own favorite literature, and it simply has to do with lending their voices.
For their new line of upcoming audiobooks, Audible.com has announced that some of the following celebrities have offered up their voices to bring new life to some books that many mainstream audiences have abandoned over the years. For example, Nicole Kidman (who played Virginia Woolf in The Hours) will be reading the Woolf classic To The Lighthouse, while Kim Basinger is set to tackle the Kate Chopin classic The Awakening.
The first one of these new audiobooks will be released by the site early next year, and some of the other celebrities who are taking part include the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Kate Winslet, Meg Ryan, Naomi Watts, Colin Firth, and Dustin Hoffman. There are a number of Oscar nominations and trophies within this list, and the ultimate goal here is that it leads to an increased awareness in classic literature beyond just adaptations for the big screen.
As for what some of these stars are up to when it comes to their acting work, you can see Kate Winslet in Contagion, which is currently in theaters. Meanwhile, Hathaway has been busy shooting The Dark Knight Rises for much of the past several months.
After hitting the stage as the face of St. John’s theatrical-themed Fall 2011 campaign, Kate Winslet is opening up about her affection for the womenswear brand in a just-released behind-the-scenes video.
“St. John and the message they want to put across in their clothes is something that very much goes hand in hand with how I feel about being a woman, being a mother, and being an actress,” the British beauty asserts from the campaign’s Jersey City set.
“The clothes are cut beautifully, the fabrics are elegant, you can look extremely chic without trying too hard… These are the kind of clothes that I would wear.”
The Oscar winner, who succeeds past campaign stars like Angelina Jolie and Karen Elson, says she was drawn to the label because of its suitability for “real shapes.”
“You don’t feel as though they’re clothes that only a model would be able to wear,” the Lancôme brand ambassador says. “And obviously, I’m not a model, I don’t have a model’s body. I have a real shape, and that means a lot to me to be able to wear clothes that do embody that message that I’m constantly trying to put across, of strength and power and femininity in a real shape.”
Singling out a camel knit dress and gray drawstring-waist trousers paired with a cashmere twinset as her favorite pieces from the collection, the actress also discusses her personal style inspirations.
“Women that inspire me… it seems to change all the time,” she says. “Sometimes it goes from political figures to incredible actresses to members of my own family, but really at the moment I’m very much inspired by mothers, women who can pull it all together, do it all, and those moments when you think ‘I can’t go another day, I’m exhausted, I can’t cope,’ and you just have to keep on going. Those are the women that really inspire me, because those are the women who are setting examples to a future generation of young women, and that’s what I’m trying to do for my daughter.”
We showed you some pics from the photoshoot, now here is your first official look at Kate Winslet’s new campaign for St. John. Captured by Craig McDean on location in April at an old cinema in Jersey City, the British actress looks right at home as the face of the label’s A/W 2011 campaign. Sultry and stunning, she shows off her amazing bod in a figure-hugging black knit dress while she drapes herself across the theater stage.
“They want to keep it looking like me and not have it look like me pretending to be a model wearing these clothes,” said Winslet of the concept. “I’m obviously not a model. I’m not the size of a model. I don’t have the face of a model or the shape of a model.”
Kate Winslet looks gorgeous as the new face of American clothing brand St. John.
In these new “behind the scenes” shots the Oscar-winning actress, 35, lounges on a wooden table wearing black gloves and a one-shoulder dress.
In another the Titanic star sprawls on the floor wearing soft knits and loose grey trousers.
“The St. John collection is effortless and chic, and I think speaks to how real women live and dress today,” said the Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA winner.
The creative director of the company, George Sharp, is thrilled to have the Titanic actress on board.
“Kate is an ideal choice for our new campaign,” he said. “She is an accomplished, beautiful woman with an extraordinary body of work, and one of the most admired actors of her generation.”
The campaign was photographed by Craig McDean at the historic Loew’s Theater in New Jersey, New York. The campaign will be launched in print in September.
While in New York recently to attend the Met Costume Institute Gala as a guest of Stella McCartney, Kate Winslet was also working at an old movie theater in Jersey City. But it wasn’t for a minimum wage! The British actress was there to model St.John Knit’s Autumn 2011 campaign.
Of course a theater is a fitting setting for the Oscar winner, who was photographed by Craig McDean for the brand for which she has signed a one-year contract. “They want to keep it looking like me and not have it look like me pretending to be a model wearing these clothes,” Winslet said of the shoot. “I’m obviously not a model. I’m not the size of a model. I don’t have the face of a model or the shape of a model.” Interesting to see her ditch her recent peroxide crop!
