Winslet & Mendes “planning holiday to salvage marriage”

Actress Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes are attempting to save their marriage with a romantic summer break, according to a U.K. report.

The stars made headlines when they announced in March (10) that their seven-year marriage had come to an end earlier this year.

The split seemed to be amicable — both of them stepped out together for a family day out with their six-year-old son Joe and Mia Honey, Winslet’s nine-year-old daughter from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton, just weeks after the news was announced.

And the former couple is reportedly planning to take time out of the spotlight to head to their Gloucestershire, England manor house to work on their relationship — in the hope they can find “the spark” in their romance again.

A source tells Britain’s Sunday Express, “Sam hasn’t any film commitments at the moment so they are going to stay at the house with the children this summer and see if they can reignite their spark.

“Sam has always been able to walk away from girlfriends before but now there are children involved he wants to see if he can work it out with Kate.”

Kate Winslet proves even Hollywood superstars count pennies

The Titanic star was spotted with her children Mia and Joe taking the big bag of coins to a New York bank to change into notes.

Kate Winslet has shown that even Oscar-winning stars count their pennies as she was spotted cashing in $75 in loose change.

The Titanic star was spotted with her children Mia and Joe taking the big bag of coins to a New York bank to change into notes.

Winslet, who recently split from husband Sam Mendes, then got flustered when the bank told her she could not convert the coins because she did not have an account there — leading a Good Samaritan behind her to help.

After converting the coins, Winslet removed her sunglasses — and only then did her helper realize who she was.

“Oh my — are you Kate Winslet?!” he stammered, to the amusement of onlookers at the Chase bank.

Winslet laughed and nodded, and later was overheard telling the chivalrous Samaritan that her kids were about to spend the day with the baby-sitter while she headed to work shooting her new miniseries Mildred Pierce.

HBO slated to shoot movie at the Woolworth mansion in Glen Cove

Hollywood is coming to Glen Cove.

HBO is set to film interior shots for its upcoming five-hour miniseries Mildred Pierce at the Woolworth mansion starting on Friday.

According to HBO’s Publicity Office, the movie is the “epic story of a proud, single mother struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.”

The film stars Kate Winslet, Guy Pearce, Evan Rachel Wood and Melissa Leo, among other notable faces. The miniseries is based on the novel penned by James M. Cain.

City officials said no traffic routes will be altered or closed because all filming will be interior shots and will take place on private property. Unfortunately, HBO representatives said, there will be no filming for the public to watch because it is indoors.

The mansion, also known as Winfield Hall, sits on 16.5-acres of land on Crescent Beach Road. It is currently owned by Martin Carey, the brother of former New York governor Hugh Carey.

The house was originally built in 1916 for businessman Franklin Winfield Woolworth, founder of the F.W. Woolworth Company, which is now the retailer Foot Locker.
