Oscar winner Kate Winslet looks set for stage debut opposite Bill Nighy

Kate Winslet has been exploring the possibility of making her stage debut.

The Oscar—winning actress has spoken several times with David Hare, with a view to him directing her in his play “Skylight”.
The plan, at least on paper, is for Bill Nighy to star as Tom Sargeant (a role he played back in 1997), a famous restaurateur who meets a former mistress with whom he’d had an affair while his wife was still alive.

Kyra Hollis, the ex-lover who lives in self-exile in a garret studio, to atone for the illicit liaison, is the role Kate would take if the play goes ahead.
It’s a terrific drama. The original production, featuring Michael Gambon and Lia Williams, ran at the National and in the West End. It won an Olivier for best play, and later a stack of Tony awards on Broadway.

Kate has been contemplating doing the play for the past three or four months and has been attempting to clear her schedule at the end of this year and into next, in order to do it.
“She’s in love with the play and would very much like to do it,” a source connected to the production told me.

But I understand there are some obstacles of a private nature that would need to be sorted out before she can sign on the dotted line and officially commit. Also to be determined is whether the play would be produced here in London’s West End or on Broadway.
If Kate can sort her schedule out, then the play will happen. If she can’t, she won’t be treading the boards any time soon — which would be a great shame.
“It may change, and the way is clear for her to do ‘Skylight’, but there’s no 100 per cent guarantee,” a theater executive told me.
Kate has never made a secret of her desire to appear on the stage. Many years ago, she was going to work with Sam Mendes, back when he was artistic director of the Donmar.

After they married, there was more, tentative talk of him directing her on stage, but for various reasons it never happened.
At the moment, in between looking after her two children, Mia and Joe, Kate is preparing for the launch of the 3D version of her epic film Titanic on April 6.

Then she will shoot Jason Reitman’s film Labor Day, alongside Josh Brolin. The movie Guernsey (based on the bestseller “The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society”) — in which she had been due to star — has been put back for further development.

Kate appears on the “Chiambretti Wednesday Show”

Kate Winslet was caught up in a crazy amount of fun on March 6 when she taped an episode of Italy’s “Chiambretti Wednesday Show” in Milan. She got cozy — whether she was happy to or not — with host Piero Chiambretti, and was also treated to a dance from another female guest. Kate’s making the international press rounds to chat up the release of her classic movie Titanic in 3D. Kate reflected on seeing herself in 3D for the first time during her interview with Piero, saying, “I was literally like, ‘Oh God, make it stop! Is that me? Oh my God, that’s me. Block my ears, somebody! Somebody club out my senses. Make it f***ing stop!'” However, Kate will share the film with her children, Mia and Joe. She told Piero, “It’s very exciting that I can actually sit with them together and we can all watch it in a movie theater. That is going to be quite amazing, actually.”

Video and captures: Kate reads “Thérèse Raquin”

Kate Winslet will have a new forum to ignite our imagination — our ears! As a part of Audible.com’s series The A-List Collection, Winslet will lend her voice to Émile Zola’s “Thérèse Raquin”, a novel favorite by Kate in her teens. Winslet gives a sneak preview by explaining how she jumped at the challenge of narrating Zola’s “extraordinary love affair,” as the medium of sound allows her to tell a story that “sink[s] into your soul.”

Video and captures: Kate receives César’s Honorary Award

Kate Winslet got the verbal equivalent of a French kiss at the “37th Annual César Film Awards”.
The 36-year-old Mildred Pierce star was presented with an Honorary César award (the French equivalent of the Oscars) by French filmmaker Michel Gondry, who directed her in the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Appropriately dressed in a gold sequined dress by Van Cleef & Arpels, Winslet laughed as Gondry serenaded her with a sexy poem — read in French with sometimes nonsensical English translation.

“My dear Kate, it is never too late to win a César, because Kate wins late,” he began. “It’s hard work to make you come.”

To this, Winslet burst out laughing, before Gondry went on to claim that getting access to the actress’ “bottom” was a “no go.”
“In conclusion, your cleavage is generous,” he said. “Can your boobs touch my illusion… brilliant fortress of common desire.”

Winslet then took the podium and said with a sigh, “All of those comments about my cleavage!”
After thanking the crowd for honoring her with the award, she referred back to her naughty valentine.
“I’m thankful to Michel Gondry,” she said, “for talking about my boobs and my bottom on live French television.”

Winslet evidently could not get over Gondry’s cheekiness. As she walked off the stage with the director to cheers from he audience, she could be heard saying one final time, “I can’t believe you talked about my boobs and my butt!”

Kate honored at the “37th Annual César Film Awards”

The British actress was the recipient of this year’s honorary César, presented to her by Michel Gondry after a retrospective of her career, to a standing ovation. The French filmmaker, who directed her in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, gave a rather unusual bilingual speech. “Ma chère Kate, Kitty, Kitty Cat, it’s never too late to win a César…” The French part of his speech recognized her as a talent, while the English part amply praised her cleavage and derrière! “Michel was my introduction to French cinema,” Winslet said afterwards. But she seemed even more proud to have worked with Roman Polanski (in Carnage) and wanted to remind everyone twice. “I’m going to say it again, I worked for Roman Polanski!” and ended her speech in the local tongue: “Merci de votre gentillesse et cette charmante soirée!” (Thank you for your kindness and this charming evening.)

She wore a stunning Jenny Packham dress to the event. Correction: Kate wore a stunning Van Cleef & Arpels dress along with the Virevolte earrings in yellow gold and diamonds and the Galuchat bracelet in yellow gold and diamonds.
