Kate Winslet, Emma Stone and Olivia Colman have joined the cast of Yorgos Lanthimosâ€™ upcoming period drama â€˜The Favouriteâ€™, which will be once again produced by Element Pictures.
This is Element Pictures second collaboration with Lanthimos, with the critically acclaimed â€˜The Lobsterâ€™ scooping the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Kate Winslet is an English actress that has been nominated for six Academy awards in total winning in 2009 for her performance in â€˜The Readerâ€™. Emma Stone has been making a name for herself over the past couple of years with performances in films such as â€˜The Helpâ€™ and â€˜Gangster Squadâ€™ and she garnered Oscar and Golden Globe nominations this year for her supporting role in Best Picture Oscar winner â€˜Birdmanâ€™. Olivia Colman is well known to British audiences for her roles in â€˜Broadchurchâ€™ and â€˜Peep Showâ€™ and she has won two BAFTA Awards for her television work thus far.
â€˜The Favouriteâ€™ takes place at the end of the 17th century and follows the political machinations behind the scenes during the reign of Queen Anne, the last monarch of the House of Stuarts. Element Picturesâ€™ Ed Guiney will produce along with Scarlet Filmsâ€™ Ceci Dempsey with Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures acting as Executive Producer. The Script was written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, with shooting due to start in Spring 2016.
