“The Catch”: Hugh Jackman plays a real ‘d***head’ in new role

Hugh Jackman will be taking on his most challenging role yet, playing a man with genitalia attached to his face in a very risque comedy opposite Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet.

Jackman and Winslet film just one segment of the film, which has been created by Peter Farrelly of There’s Something About Mary fame.

There are 17 shorts making up the project.

Jackman play a man whose testicles are located under his chin and Winslet plays a woman who goes out on a date with his character.

Other stars taking part in the film project are Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, Justin Long and Sam Rockwell.

Emma Stone teases “raunchy” Kate Winslet/Hugh Jackman short

Kate and Hugh Jackman Your imaginations are needed to help fill some gaps in a short film around which buzz has incrementally built over the last few months, and which actress Emma Stone briefly teased today in an interview with Movieline. That would be five-minute segment Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman contributed to the anthology Untitled Comedy — which, depending on whom you ask, is a working title or the actual name of an all-star omnibus directed by the likes of Peter Farrelly, Brett Ratner, Elizabeth Banks, and others. Stone is in another short altogether, but to hear her tell it (and not nearly enough), keep your eyes on The Catch.

“That one is so much fun,” said Stone, who had sat down to talk more generally about her upcoming indie Paper Man, which opens April 23. “It’s a series of 17 short films — kind of like Kentucky Fried Movie. It that vein. It’s just really, really funny. Kieran Culkin and I did our short together a couple of weeks ago, directed by Griffin Dunne. But wait until you see the Kate Winslet/Hugh Jackman one. That’s the only other one I’ve seen. The humor is so raunchy.”

Wait, huh? Winslet and Jackman? “Raunchy”? We all know Winslet will do just about anything on camera, but Jackman? What?

More info on “The Catch” project

Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet star in a segment called The Catch in a multi-sketch film shot by Peter Farrelly (of the Farrelly brothers) and several other directors. Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are other actors working on this project.

The other directors in this film include actors Elizabeth Banks and Griffin Dunne, Brett Ratner (New York, Je T’aime, X-Men: The Last Stand), and Charles Wessler (Dumb and Dumber and the upcoming Three Stooges).

This collaborative idea from Farrelly and Wessler strings together a series of stories with a unifying theme, similar to films in the 1970s such as Kentucky Fried Movie. The two worked on There’s Something About Mary. Based on the success of ensemble films like Valentine’s Day, a star-studded film with a modest budget could well work again.
