Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet on ‘terrifying’ challenge of Aaron Sorkin’s script

“I didn’t really know much about him,” admits Michael Fassbender when asked about playing the title character in “Steve Jobs” (watch below). “I suppose the thing that really stuck with me was meeting people who knew him — John Sculley, Joanna Hoffman, Steve Wozniak, Andy Hertzfeld … You could see he was still very much present in their lives. Even if their relationships were difficult, there was a sadness and a love there for him.”

The film by Oscar champ Danny Boyle(“Slumdog Millionaire”) paints a complex portrait of the man as a brutal taskmaster with conflicting emotions about his family and his legacy. The actors credit the screenplay by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin(“The Social Network”) as an essential but demanding part of the process.

Recalls Kate Winslet, who plays Jobs’ marketing guru Joanna Hoffman, “I have to be honest, it was terrifying. I remember all of us walking into the room on day one of rehearsal when you’re trying out your accent and hoping to God that everyone else isn’t looking at you and thinking, ‘She’s shit’. When we walked onto the set, we had to be that well-oiled machine, we had to be ready to go, we had to have Sorkin-ese in our back pockets.”

That difficulty wasn’t lost on Sorkin. “Each of them, at at least one point in the movie, has a long list of things to say. I went over to Jeff [Daniels] and I said, ‘Michael’s a really big Irish guy. I think he’s going to beat me up.’ And Jeff, who had been doing this for three years with ‘The Newsroom’ stared at me and said, ‘I’m a really big Irish guy, and I’m going to beat you up.'”

“Steve Jobs” opens Friday (Oct. 9) in limited release with a nationwide roll-out to follow on October 23.

Kate Winslet and Jimmy Fallon take selfies together on The Tonight Show

Kate Winslet and Jimmy Fallon attempted to make each other look as strange as possible on Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show.

In a new segment called “Photo Booth,” the host and Steve Jobs star fittingly used iPads to shoot some freakish photos of each other through the Photo Booth app.

Using features like “mirror-effect” and “squeeze,” Winslet marveled at the ability to enlarge her forehead and give herself a “butt-face.”

The actress also wondered how taking pictures qualified as a talk show.

“This isn’t really a talk show I’m on, is it?” Winslet joked. “What are we doing?”

The Hilarious Reason Kate Winslet Keeps Her Oscar in Her Bathroom

Most of us have probably done it at one point in time: picked up a hairbrush or shampoo bottle and given an impromptu awards acceptance speech in the bathroom mirror. Kate Winslet knows this, and that’s precisely why the Oscar-winning actress chose the location where she keeps her Academy Award.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine in promotion of her new movie, “Steve Jobs,” Winslet discussed other significant roles throughout her career, including the one that won her the Best Actress statuette for 2008’s “The Reader.” And while Winslet told the magazine that she’s “super proud” of the honor, she admitted that she keeps it in her bathroom — not in an attempt at false modesty, like some celebs, but rather to share the wealth and feed her guests’ Oscar glory fantasies.

“The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad,'” Winslet explained, “—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed. They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”

And while we’d probably get a little embarrassed, too, there’s no way we wouldn’t grab that little gold guy if we ever had the chance to visit Winslet’s house. We’re just glad the actress has a sense of humor about it — and lets her guests act out their dreams in (relative) private.
